Since New York City has one of the highest rates of public transit, it is also the most energy-efficient cities in the United States. 54.2% of employed people in the state of New York work for public transit. It is so rare to own an automobile in New York, that over half of all households do not own one. Because owning your own vehicle is rare and the cities are crowded, many people turn to public transportation for going to work, home, other cities, etc. on a daily basis.
